No actual sewing is being done today – although, I do have some fabric pre-washing – so I’ve decided to plot out my makes for February (with an essential red dress for Valentine’s Day included).
Make 1:
Jennifer Lauren Handmade Juniper Cardigan in this gorgeous modal french terry cardinal from Sew Anonymous and I think I’ll pair it with these pretty Tabitha Sewer iridescent heart buttons:
The Juniper is on my Make 9 as I have had it for at least 6 months and have never actually got around to sewing it! It will feel good to tick another planned make off the 2021 project list.
Make 2:
Valentine’s Sew Over It Maisie Dress
I love the Kate Spade taffeta version of the Maisie dress that I made last month so much that I’ve bought some deadstock vermillion textured taffeta from Amothreads to make a Valentine’s Day dress. It has to be a Valentine’s from home but that’s no reason not to enjoy dressing well!
Make 3:
Chalk and Notch Fringe Dress
I’ve been wanting to make this pattern for an age – so when I saw this gorgeous gold speckled double gauze at Sew Anonymous I knew I had the perfect pair – and at £8/m it’s a total steal!
Make 4:
Birthday dress
Not many of us got a birthday last year due to the pandemic and restrictions having been put in place from the end of March – it’s looking possible that my options will be limited this year, too (damned April birthday). However, I’m going to plan with a little optimism and even if there are few options, I’ll still feel like a queen in a little black dress with added sparkles. I was thinking, maybe, a version of the By Hand London Hannah wrap dress (although I think I will adapt it to a faux wrap and add a zip) with mesh bishop sleeves using this glitter star mesh fabric from Rainbow Fabrics Kilburn that I got from the Elisalex edit they had a few months back. I’ve some beautiful, soft, draping black lining fabric (with a tiny amount of stretch from Fabric Godmother) which will be perfect for this.
Make 5:
Charm Scout Capelet
It won’t be an everyday piece but I just can’t help but want to make every single release from Gertie’s Patreon – it’s hard not to find the woman’s momentum contagious! I don’t think I’ll make a heavy version like those modelled by Gertie and the team – I’m thinking a matching dress and capelet in black taffeta or brocade with gold piping. Watch this space!
